BOOKWORM // THE BOOK THIEF

Yet another one of my Spring Break reads.  I had heard so much about this book for sooooo long, and I knew it was high time for me to suck it up and read.  I swear my English-teacher neighbor has been slipping it into conversations since fourth grade, but the concept was just so dark.

At first, I was very very turned off by the fact that the grim-reaper is the narrator.  The style of writing was just so strange. Holocaust books are typically not my thing either.  I get far to depressed and emotional.  They really rip my heart right out.

My hesitations with the book didn't last long.  I quickly breezed through it.  I legitimately couldn't wait to see what happened to the characters (especially Max!).  Any book about the holocaust-era is going to be a bit sad, a bit depressing.  The Book Thief was not different in that respect, but it also had its fair share of hope and friendship.

I was enthralled in every page.

  2. Okay, the next time I go to the library I'm picking this book up. I've heard so much about it for so long, but I was a little wary the subject matter could make it depressing. If you recommend it so highly though (and since you seem to have had some of the same reservations as I did), I'll definitely check it out.

    1. Good decision! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one with those reservations. It does take some getting used to, but the story is well worth it. Happy reading!
